Flower Shop At Unravel 2018 To Raise Money For Charity

Unravel 2018, the annual yarn festival at Farnham Malting, will be raising money to support the work of A Place To Be Youth Group in Haslemere. Visitors, crafters, and knitting superstars are encourage to craft a flower for the display, to help raise funds for this amazing youth group.

Visitors can buy a ticket at the festival to enter the lucky draw, with the chance to win one of the beautiful floral creations. All money raised from sales will go to charity. All people that donate a knitted flower for the flower shop will automatically be entered into the draw.

About A Place To Be

A Place To Be’s aim is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for young people in Haslemere, to help develop their social skills and self-esteem. They offer a wide range of activities, including; arts, music, drama, planting, sports, cooking, debates, money management, road safety, personal safety and much more.

Exhibitions at Unravel 2018

Kate Talbot’s exhibition will show a wide range of the artist’s work in wool and stitch. Kate’s work is powerful and thought-provoking, tackling a number of social and political issues, including obesity and motherhood, resonating with an audience who recognise and identify with these concerns. Work exhibited in the Long Kiln Gallery will include ‘The Load Is With You!’, ‘Cinderella’ and ‘The Big Bang’.

Students from the University of Creative Arts, in Farnham, will be revealing some of their most inspired work at Unravel 2018. Some of the projects include ‘Engraved Shells’ by Tilly Reynolds whose techniques include rug weaving and hopsack, and ‘Construction Vs Destruction’ by Jessica Green who was influenced by the juxtaposition of the opposing elements on a construction site.

There will also be features from talented students at Woking College. The work on display features art from a brief entitled ‘Structure and Surface’.

Participation Sessions

  • Surrey Knitting and Crochet Group will have a free drop-in crochet workshop sessions throughout the weekend. Lessons include Tunisian crochet, mastering basic granny squares, and even courses for complete beginners.
  • Have a go at needle felting with Maltings Makers Textile Network. Make a delightful, small hand-felted design that is perfect as a brooch, key ring or even a little picture frame.
  • Start your own fibre adventure with a free drop-in session for spinning and weaving. The West Surrey Guild will hold sessions throughout the weekend.

Unravel 2018 hosts plenty of your favourite yarn brands in a rainbow of colours, these will be available for purchase to further explore your knitting journey. There’s plenty of fun to be had at Unravel this year, all while supporting a vital charity.

Unravel is held at Farnham Maltings from Friday 16th February to Sunday 18th February.
