Yarn Store Of The Month Two Hands

Yarn Store of the Month continues visiting many of our favourite yarn stores across the world with the beautiful Two Hands in Saint Petersburg, Russia. We spoke to Anzhela Prechenko and discussed the inspiration behind the business, as well as the future of knitting in Russia.

What was the inspiration to opening Two Hands?

Our store is called Two Hands Knitting Club. Russian knitters are very fond of socialising, so we decided to create a place where they can meet and talk about their favourite hobby. In Russia, it is not often possible to find a space where you can just sit on the sofa, drink coffee, choose yarn for a project,  and discuss with other knitters about models and patterns. This is the space we have opened.

How popular is knitting/crochet in Russia?

Knitting is very popular in Russia, and not only among the older generation, but also among young people. We  not only sell yarn for knitting, but also conduct workshops (including machine knitting), knitting along, and watching a movie while knitting.

Since opening, how far has the business developed?

Our store has been operating for only 10 months but it is already well-known around the world among Russian-speaking knitters.

What is the secret to your success?

The whole Two Hands team is open for communication, we are always happy to help in choosing yarn and tools. We organise events where people have fun, get acquainted, socialise on the topic of knitting and more.

How has HiyaHiya helped your business to flourish?

We didn’t want to sell knitting tools in our store that are already present on the territory of the Russian Federation. Knowing the excellent quality and wide range of HiyaHiya, we chose this particular product and it did not fail! Our customers managed to fall in love with HiyaHiya.

What do you love most about your line of work?

We love to receive new products, including new knitting needles, accessories, yarn, and to tell our customers about the latest products. We love all the different events that we organise and to talk about knitting as we knit!

What trends do you see happening in the craft industry in the future?

We see how actively the craft industry is developing, which we are very pleased. It seems to us that in the future, more and more customers will switch to natural yarn and to tools with high quality.

What are your plans for Two Hands in the future?

We will bring more and more cool yarn and tools! We plan to increase sales and expand our reach into new countries.

We plan to develop sales in our territory, we want as many customers as possible to use HiyaHiya knitting needles and accessories!
